Cast Your Vote

There's a poll that we're running in the upper right hand corner of the home page to find out how many people are interested in attending 30th Reunion events here in Las Vegas and/or here in Hawai`i. It's obviously not scientific, but it's also a way to have fun -- and help Tracy M. in figuring out how many people might go Vegas.

Take a moment and cast your preference. Mahalo!

Softball Tourney: Your Chance to Help Out!

Hey Gang '79,

The 2009 Softball Tournament is quickly approaching! It's set for Saturday, February 14th, at Ke`ehi Lagoon Park.

I hope everyone has been stretching, walking around the block, and swinging something or other as previously requested.

We will try to contact classmates by either e-mail or phone call within a week or two, to finalize a few things. If you are able to retrieve e-mails within one week with the information that we provide and you don't need us to call you, please let us know so we waste your time as well as ours, and we can spend more time in contacting those by phone who really haven't welcomed the 21st century yet with all it's technologies.

To those who offered to donate to the cause, we are asking to get it to Mike Meyer (Treasurer'79) as we are trying to get an established budget to decide the offset costs for the event. If you wish to donate to the cause please get in touch with Mike Meyer ASAP (you can make a check payable to Greg Perry; you can postal mail it to Mike at 94-864 Lumiiki St., Waipahu HI 96797. Or you can e-mail Mike at mmeyer(at)hccsmg.com. If you would like his phone number you can e-mail Mike)
. This will help bring down the final costs for all classmates.

The food and cooking duties will be taken care by Dwayne A., Tracy M.,and Mark V. If you can help them out in any way please contact them. James S. is still looking for bodies for the event either to set-up, clean-up, players, musicians, etc.

Please help in anyway that you can. This event will be kicking off our 30th year (out-of-school) reunion, so let's all do their part in making it a sucess.

Reunion News

Aloha Classmates!

As you all know 2009 marks our 30th Class Reunion. The following is a tentative plan for holding activities involving our 30th Reunion.

We will hold a no host bar get together at the Alumni Clubhouse and a Buffet Dinner (TBD) sometime during late July or early August. You will be notified of the final dates for these events sometime in February via mail, e-mail, or here on our website (http://slhs1979.blogspot.com).

We are also planning a get-together in Las Vegas during the same weekend (Sept. 17 – 21) as the UH vs. UNLV football game. I am organizing a cocktail reception, class gaming, and a dinner at the Golden Nugget Hotel and Casino. A golf outing is also being planned.

Those of you who would like a package deal (air/hotel/football game) can go to www.pandaonline.com to make reservations (space is limited). It is important that I get a head count and commitment (deposit) for the cocktail reception/dinner no later than April 30, 2009. The cost to attend these reunion functions will be sent to you sometime in February via the same arrangements as stated above.

Many classmates have expressed their interest in attending our 30th Reunion in Hawaii and/or Las Vegas. We welcome you to bring your wife / significant other to all reunion events. So spread the word, mark your calendar, make arrangements early, and we will see you soon!!!!

Aloha,
Tracy Mizota

2009 Softball Tournament Update

Gentlemen,
We will be having our annual Softball Tournament on the 14th of February (yes only one day this year). Due to circumstances beyond anyone's control we were unable to secure the permit for two days, but it is planned for 2 days next year. The tournament fee is $200 as in the past and you will only have one pitch to swing at (so swing baby swing). So Gents stretch, jog and swing at a couple before the tournament. Maximum participation on the one day will be all we have so please make the effort.

We need effort by all to make this a success;
1) We have monetary donations promised by Greg Perry (Tournament Fee), Greg Frey (Partial Uniforms), Steven Soong (Partial Uniforms), Randy Uyema (Partial Uniforms), Tony Souza (Partial Uniforms), James Santos (Partial Uniforms), more would be greatly appreciated to offset the remainder of the cost.
I have 2 types of shirts, 2 types of hats and 1 bag all with printing or embroidery. There will be 3 dozen of each item, so enough for all and then some.
2) William Tito (Tuitama) has donated beverages, any food, beverages or people to assist with cooking and stoves.
3) Tents are needed along with some help to setup and breakdown.
4) A great attitude and tolerance for FUN and LAUGHS.
Please let me know as soon as possible what you are able to assist with, what is not covered by the monetary donations will be collected from the membership at the Tournament. I have Shirts ( M, L, XL,XXL,XXXL) and Caps to fit all, along with other items. So Gents the LARGER your monetary gift the better for the class. if you would like to call me directly to fill the actual needs please don't hesitate to call @ 428-0575.

Mahalo,
James

Special Class Meeting: Thursday Jan. 22

President Mark V. has scheduled a meeting at 6:00p.m. at the SLAA clubhouse this Thursday, January 22. It's not the usual scheduled date due to the urgency of the upcoming events. We will go over the reunion status, softball status, future class status and other important things pertaining to the class.

If you are unable to make the meeting but wish to relay your message to the class, either post it here on the blog-site or find a fellow classmate to voice your opinion. Don't quote me on this but Mark V. said refreshments will be provided. So come one, come all.

Thanks and may God Bless you all.
