Who You Gonna Call? Reservations for SLHS '79 30th Reunion in Las Vegas, Made Easy Online!
www.pandaonline.com. Yep! That's the ticket. Well, now that I have resurrected as many iconic phrases as I can remember from our era upon the Slopes of Kalaepohaku, let me clue everyone in.
Our Class of '79 30th year reunion committee has endorsed PANDA TRAVEL as the travel agency to help all of us who are travelling to the "Ninth Hawaiian Island" of Las Vegas in September for our SLHS 30th Year Reunion, to include the UH Warriors-UNLV Football Game @ Sam Boyd Stadium on Sept. 19.
As our Reunion Committee works hard to plan for our Class Reunion Cocktail party, golf games and reunion dinner in LV, to go along with the football game, I URGE ALL SLHS '79 CLASSMATES TO BOOK WITH PANDA TRAVEL ASAP. It's so Easy Kine Online (even a caveman can do it!).
My lovely wife, Mia, & I are going to move our eldest daughter, Samantha, back to college for her senior year up in Northern California at about the same time as our Las Vegas reunion, so we are flyin' in & out of California & will drive to meet everyone in LV (no, you guys can't borrow the car, but as the non-drinker, I am certainly destined to be the "Official" SLHS '79 30th Reunion Designated Driver, & glad to do it. LOL).
I cruised the Panda Travel web page, and it was so easy to navigate! All the different UH-UNLV travel packages are clearly laid out and even more clearly described. There are 3, 4, 5 & 6 day packages at 3-4 different Las Vegas hotels, some with meals and some without, BUT all with game tickets, tailgate party tickets and more! Just a few clicks later, and a mere $100 per person deposit, you will be confirmed. It's that easy guys. PLUS, as an added incentive, if enough of us book with Panda, we will all get an additional discount above and beyond the published package prices. So, get clickin' guys! It's that easy. (And I want the discount for gamblin' monies!)
Mia & I selected the 4 Day LAND ONLY package, and will drive in for our fun kine stay at the Downtown Golden Nugget beginning Thursday Sept. 18 (so we will be there in time for the Reunion "Kick-off" Cocktail Party that Friday night). Simple to do, and all it took was a few minutes. Now it's your turn! Sign-up NOW!
All of you by now have the "Sign-up" Sheet for our Reunion Events, both here in our island home and in LV. As Tony S., Tracy M. and others have told us many times, we all MUST plunk down our deposit money by the May 15 deadline! DON'T FORGET! Our Reunion Committee really needs an accurate "head count". So, help them out! Fill out the form. Send in the monies!
As my wife & I excitedly wait for reunion events to unfold, as the Vice President of the Saint Louis Alumni Association who works closely with SLAA & SLS (as obviously does "super SLS guru" Russell V., & Richard J.), I'll work hard to get raffle gifts from SLS & SLAA for our events. BUT, our whole Class needs to join SLAA to show our association and school (and maybe even yours truly) big time support!

Looking For More Classmates: Are You Up To Date?
Gang,
The Committee has sent out 30th year reunion flyers via information acquired by either the Alumni Class list, the 2004 St. Louis Directory, web-site, previous events, or classmate information. We will be trying to upgrade this directory on a regular basis so information on as many classmates will be current for events for the next 20 years or so.
We have all come along way the past 30 years and hope that in the next 20, maybe more of the Class of '79 will be involved. So please make sure your information is current and your friends information is current. We will be posting a MIA list of those who we need information on.
We also maybe requesting a current picture of either yourself or one with your family for our directory album. Also feel free to leave comments and input here on the class Web site, as we are here to serve the Class of 1979.
May God Bless and the force be with you.

Calling All Classmates! May Class Meeting: May 20th To Discuss Reunion
Aloha Fellow 79'ers,
I am proposing that the Class meeting for the month of May be held on the third Wednesday (5/20/09) of the month, instead of the first Thursday as per the usual schedule. It will be at the usual place, the SLAA Clubhouse. I hope that by then I will have some idea as to who will want to go to the reunion.
I spoke with Tony and it would be great if everyone who may have any classmate information semi-current (25th reunion) or current could attend the May meeting so that we can compile all the information into one sort of current class information list. See you there!
Mahalo,
Tracy

Questionnaires Are In The Mail
Gang ʻ79,
The final reunion flyer was sent out this week and should be finding it's way to your mailbox. If for any reason you do not receive it, please read this post or contact Tracy M. for information. Thanks, mahalo and have a great day.
Tony'79
And...
As a follow-up to Tony's great e-mail, everyone MUST be mindful that there is a response deadline of no later than May 15. Your hardworking Reunion Committee MUST get a fairly good & reliable headcount. So, don't be left out. Fill out the form & check off all the events you want to attend, whether it is in Hawaii or Vegas or BOTH. PLUS, if we as a class book enough people through Panda, each will get abit more discount. Call our Panda Rep., & make sure you say you are SLHS C/O 1979 30th Year Reunion.

30th Reunion Meeting and Update From Tracy Mizota
Aloha Fellow Classmates,
If you are able to come to this Thursday (4/2/2009) meeting at the Alumni Clubhouse @ 6:30 pm, I will be going over the final arrangements for the events regarding this year's 30th Class Reunion. If you can't attend the meeting, a questionaire flyer (need a head count) will be posted on the Class website sometime this weekend, and a flyer will be going out via postal mail next week. It is IMPORTANT that I get the questionaire flyer back to me via email (attachment) or by postal mail "NO LATER THAN MAY 31,2009".
Those of you who are making arrangements to attend the 30th Reunion events in Las Vegas through Panda Travel so that you can attend the UH vs UNLV football game during the same weekend need to book it soon because "SPACE IS LIMITED" and going fast! If you do make arrangements through Panda Travel let them know that you are from St.Louis Class of 1979 or contact John DeFreitas @ 738-3573 so that he will put all of us in a group for the game.
Anyone who is making their own Las Vegas arrangements not with Panda Travel but would like to go to the UH vs UNLV football game with the rest us please let me know by May 31, 2009 so I can see if there are tickets available that you can purchase from Panda Travel. If you have any questions please email me at tm_@hotmail.com or call me @ 227-6900.

Updates Soon!
Classmates,
Sorry for the lack of recent updates, but we should be gearing up again soon.
For those who have been asking about exactly when Hawaiʻi reunion events will be schedule, weʻre still working on it, but we should have a more firm answer in the next few weeks. We will work to try to get the dates to you as soon as possible so that you can start getting those flight and hotel reservations made.
Mahalo,
Ben. Gutierrrez ʻ79

Special Meeting: Thursday, Feb. 19
The Class of '79 will be holding a special meeting this Thursday, Feb. 19, at 6:30 pm at the SLAA Clubhouse. Subject of the meeting will be a recap of this year's Alumni Softball Tournament -- how it went, what worked, what didn't, and what we can do better. Short notice, but if you attended the tourney, it would be another good time to get together and talk story and plan for next year.
Here's a list of classmates who came to the tourney (in no particular order), with big mahalos especially to those Coach James mentioned in the last post. And huge props to James for coaching and getting all the t-shirts, caps and other memorabilia ordered and ready!
We also have some t-shirts, caps, beanies and other items still available for sale. If you're interested, contact Coach James.
Let us know if we missed anyone! Also thanks to the families for turning out, cheering us on and spending the day with us. And we'll get the trophy back next year.

Softball Recap From Coach James
Men of Kalaepohaku,
I would like to give all of you a heartfelt Mahalo, for your help and generosity. For those of you that participated in the days events I know that the next day we all felt the pains of the day before. All the handshakes, hugs, laughs and smiles just wore me out.
As I reflected on the day I remembered several things. With our maturity we have not left behind our desire, determination and ability. We looked sharp on the field and had several compliments from other classes on our attire. Our cheerleaders gave us support at every game (Lorrie Santos, Libby Keanu, Jenny Centeio, Theresa Pimental) and for that I would like to thank you for celebrating your Valentines Day with us. It felt great to share triumphs and camaraderie with " The Men of 1979" I wish more of you could have been there to feel the waves of memories as Bino Kanoa and Greg Martin played the music of our life and a gathering of backup singers developed (some a little farther back then others). The day was truly a gathering of friends and families.
I would like to thank Tony Souza for his work behind the scenes giving us the foundation to succeed. Mark Villanueva for passing up on the first 2 games to setup the fire and food. Tracy Mizota for the chili and helping with the cooking duties. I would like to send a hug to our associate members, my three sons (Rory, Joshua, Zach) for spending the day helping me with the days events, and to my wife Lorrie for cooking the ham and Spanish rice the night before, and for making a wonderful dessert for everyone. Austin and Libby Keanu for the kebobs, Tuitama (aka William Tito) for the beverages, Ben Gutierrez for taking pictures and posting to the blog site, and anyone I may have missed, Mahalo.
A special thanks to our sponsors:
Golden Crusaders: Aaron Manuel, Tony Souza, Zach Demello, Greg Perry, Randy Uyema.
Silver Crusaders: Greg Frey, Austin Keanu, William Tito, Steven Soong
Red & Blue Crusaders: Elliott Pimental, David Agor, Hank George, Bino Kanoa, Andrew Medeiros
We are truly blessed to share a bond that will always light our life's path. Again gentlemen a sincere Mahalo. Hopefully there will be more involvement next year and you gentlemen will be involved a little earlier then this year so that an even better event can be planned.

See you folks all on Saturday. Please remember our conduct and good sportsmanship. While the Men Of Kalaepohaku are always competitive we are among brothers and should respect each one as such. Have fun and be safe. Take care of this tournament as it is ours--no one else in the State can say they have had such an alumni activity for 21 years in a row!! Other sporting events are being explored. Many want to imitate us but only a select few can call themselves Crusaders. Memor Et Fidelis!
